2019 Horror Movie Roadmap

Let’s face the facts: 2019 is going to be an incredible year for horror movies. Below I’ve listed the must-sees of the year thus far. For those of you who can’t seem to get excited for scary movies anymore, look no further.

Child’s Play

Release Date: June 21st

Among many remakes with amazing potential this year… Chucky is back in a reboot of the 1988 film. While the film does look modernized to a degree, it will certainly be one to see front row. The ever talented Mark Hamill will be voicing the psychopathic killer doll. The trailer doesn’t reveal too much so far but channels disturbing and gritty vibes. Get pumped for Child’s Play!

annabelle

Annabelle Comes Home

Release Date: June 28th

Just one week after the release of Child’s Play we will be blessed with another installment in the Conjuring Universe. Following the very successful and terrifying Annabelle Creation, Annabelle Comes Home will likely leave you just as satisfied. Grab your friends and family and get ready for a scary good time!

new mutants

The New Mutants

Release Date: August 2nd

After being pushed out over a year further than it’s expected release, the New Mutants is finally slated to arrive early August. The film will bring a very unique aspect to the horror genre as it is based in the Marvel Universe. The cast packs a punch with the most talented young actors currently in the movie industry. Be sure to expect the unexpected with this rare horror film!

midsommar

Midsommar

Release Date: August 9th

Midsommar will potentially be the most disturbing film of the year. Ari Aster, the director of the film Hereditary returns with another film focusing on a Swedish village with some frightening traditions. The preview resembles movies such as the Wicker Man and Rosemary’s Baby. I have high expectations for this film to contain powerful performances and keep me on the edge of my seat even after the credits start rolling.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

Release Date: August 9th

Arriving on the same day as Midsommar, you may want to make it a double feature. Scary stories come to life for a group of teens in this film adaption of the well known book series. While the trailer for the film is honestly poorly made, I’m confident that Guillermo Del Toro will deliver us a spooky good time.

 it

IT: Chapter Two

Release Date: September 6th

In a world of remakes going horribly wrong… There is one title that will surely impress the audience just as much as the first one. It: Chapter Two has the potential to be the highest grossing horror film of the year. The first film boasted a very successful 700 million. While the cast features some very well-known actors I’m just excited to see Bill Skarsgard play the most terrifying clown again.

Zombieland: Double Tap

Release Date: October 11th

It is time to get excited about zombies again. The horror/comedy Zombieland continues with Double Tap. It has been 10 years since the first film and the sequel is one of the most anticipated films of the Halloween season! Although there isn’t very much information released on the film, the original cast is returning and that in itself is worth celebrating.

Overview:

2019 has definitely had a slow start in the horror genre. But with some very promising titles upcoming you can be sure to find a few worth the ticket price. I’ve made a few predictions for the movies arriving later this year:

Scariest:

IT: Chapter Two

Best: Midsommar

Worst: (not listed) Brightburn

Also a few other titles to watch out for:

47 Meters Down: Uncaged

The Curse of La Llorna

Pet Sematary

In the Tall Grass
